Amid rising concerns over road safety and cyber threats, B. Shivadhar Reddy, Director-General of Police, has directed officials to intensify awareness efforts and enforcement measures across key areas.
Addressing a review meeting at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate office, the DGP expressed concern over increasing fatalities among pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, despite awareness campaigns like ‘Pedestrian is king on the road’. He instructed authorities to conduct extensive awareness programmes under the Arrive Alive campaign from April 13 to 18.
He also emphasised strict action against violations such as wrong-side driving and urged motorists to follow defensive driving practices. Highlighting accident data, he noted that individuals aged 42–45 are among the most affected, many of whom are primary earners in their families.
The meeting reviewed traffic conditions, law and order, and the growing number of cybercrime cases. Officials presented detailed reports on crime patterns and trends.
The DGP warned that cybercriminals are increasingly using technology to deceive people. He advised citizens to avoid suspicious links, calls, and investment schemes, and to report fraud cases quickly to improve chances of recovering funds.
M. Ramesh, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, highlighted the expansion of the Commissionerate across major IT and financial hubs. He stressed the importance of working with NGOs to prevent youth from getting involved in criminal activities.
Sai Manohar, Cybercrime DCP, pointed to a rise in fraud types such as part-time job scams, trading frauds, phishing, and digital arrest scams, all of which have caused significant financial losses.
Ranjan Ratan Kumar, Traffic DCP, said that awareness drives and in-house repair of breath analysers have helped improve enforcement while reducing operational costs.
Officials also noted an overall increase in offences, including fraud, theft, assault, and cybercrime, indicating the need for continued vigilance and public awareness.
