India has become the first market to receive a country-specific subscription from AI coding startup Cursor. The company has launched the Cursor Start plan at ₹649 per month, including taxes, offering a new option between its free tier and the $20 Pro plan.
The launch comes as Cursor continues to expand its presence in India, which is now its 3rd-largest market. The company said its Indian developer base has grown to more than 3 million over the past year, with users generating more AI agent requests per developer than anywhere else in the world. The new plan also supports payments through UPI, credit cards and debit cards.
The Cursor Start plan includes Grok 4.5, the company’s most advanced in-house AI model, along with Composer, cloud agents that can build and open pull requests, the Cursor iOS app, and support for plugins, MCP servers, hooks and skills. It also offers higher agent limits than the free version across desktop, web, iOS and CLI.
However, several premium features remain exclusive to the Pro plan. These include access to OpenAI and Anthropic models, Bugbot, Auto mode, Automations, the Cursor SDK, and additional on-demand usage beyond the included limits.
Explaining the move, Cursor’s Head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, Simon Green, said the company wanted to “right-size the commercial model and drive scale.” Cursor also confirmed it will implement checks to prevent users outside India from subscribing through VPNs.
The company said India was chosen because of its rapidly growing developer ecosystem. According to GitHub, India now has more than 27 million developers, with over 2 million joining in 2026 alone. Cursor also plans to expand its local presence by hiring a sales leader in Delhi, a government affairs executive, and technical support teams across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Following the expected completion of SpaceX’s $60 billion acquisition in Q3, Cursor believes Starlink’s presence in India could help accelerate its growth.
