Boston Dynamics has appointed former Amazon executive Rohit Prasad as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 7, 2026, as the humanoid robotics company continues to expand its commercial focus.

Prasad previously served as Senior Vice President and Head Scientist for Alexa and Artificial General Intelligence at Amazon. Boston Dynamics said his experience in turning physical AI breakthroughs into commercial applications will support the company’s next phase of growth.

Prasad succeeds Robert Playter, who stepped down as CEO in February 2026.

The appointment comes as Boston Dynamics, which is owned by Hyundai Motor Group, continues to develop its robotics business and expand the use of humanoid robots in industrial environments.

Hyundai Motor Group said in January that it aims to build a factory capable of manufacturing 30,000 robot units annually by 2028. The group plans to begin deploying the robots across all its manufacturing sites from the same year.

With Prasad taking over as CEO, Boston Dynamics will draw on his background in AI research, technology development and commercialisation as it works to advance its robotics portfolio and support Hyundai’s broader automation strategy.
