From vehicle emissions to art supplies: How Graviky Labs is giving air pollution a new purpose

A Bengaluru-based startup is finding a creative use for air pollution by transforming harmful emissions into products for artists. Founded by Anirudh Sharma, Nikhil Kaushik and Nitesh Kadyan, Graviky Labs began as an experiment at the MIT Media Lab and has since developed an innovative approach to capturing and reusing carbon emissions.

At the centre of its technology is KAALINK, a device designed to be fitted onto diesel vehicles and industrial chimneys. It captures up to 90% of soot and particulate pollutants before they are released into the atmosphere.

The collected soot undergoes a purification process to remove heavy metals and harmful toxins. It is then converted into AIR-INK, a range of sustainable art supplies that includes pens, markers and paints.

According to the startup, a 30ml AIR-INK pen contains captured pollution equivalent to 45 minutes of car emissions. This process gives harmful particulate matter a second life as a usable creative material.

Since 2016, Graviky Labs claims to have helped clean more than 1.6 trillion litres of polluted air through its technology.

The company’s approach goes beyond conventional pollution control. By converting captured emissions into marketable products, it connects environmental innovation with the principles of a circular economy.

Graviky Labs demonstrates how scientific experimentation can evolve into a business model that combines commercial potential with an environmental purpose.
