Axis Bank has appointed Rajeev Mantri as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective September 28, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. He succeeds Puneet Sharma, who stepped down last month to pursue a new professional opportunity.
In his new role, Rajeev will lead the bank’s finance function, providing strategic direction across financial planning, capital management, regulatory compliance, investor relations, and financial performance as Axis Bank continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading private sector banks.
Before joining Axis Bank, Rajeev served as Executive President and Chief Financial Officer at Bandhan Bank, where he played a key role in shaping the bank’s finance strategy, capital management, regulatory reporting, financial planning, and investor engagement, while strengthening its financial governance and supporting long-term business objectives.
Earlier, he was Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer – India and Cluster Finance Head, South Asia at Citi. In this role, he led the finance function for Citi India while overseeing finance operations across Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Prior to Citi, he served as Chief Financial Officer at TransUnion CIBIL, leading finance, internal audit, procurement, facilities management, and financial controls.
Rajeev also spent nearly 15 years with Standard Chartered Bank, holding several global leadership positions in Singapore and India, including CFO Investments, Head of Finance, Operations, Regions, Controls & Change – Global ITO, Global Head – Cost Management, Client Businesses, Head – Group Retail Lending Finance, Head – Balance Sheet Management & Regulatory Reporting, and Head – Financial Control & Regulatory Reporting. Earlier in his career, he was Vice President – Finance, Corporate, Investment & Private Banking at Mashreq Bank in Dubai and began his professional journey as Assistant Manager – Finance at Diageo.
With nearly 30 years of experience across banking, financial services, treasury, corporate finance, financial control, regulatory reporting, and strategic planning, Rajeev brings extensive leadership expertise to Axis Bank. His appointment further strengthens the bank’s executive leadership as it continues to focus on sustainable growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.
