India’s artificial intelligence sector is witnessing strong job growth as demand for AI-related roles continues to rise across the technology industry. Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said AI jobs in the country are growing by 15-20%, even as several traditional IT segments undergo transformation.

Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit on Monday, Vaishnaw said the government is actively engaging with the IT industry to prepare India’s workforce for the next wave of technology advancements.

“I am constantly in touch with our IT industry. They feel that the AI job growth will be kind of, it’s almost like it’s growing almost 15-20 per cent. Yes, many other parts of the IT industry will have to be transformed now, but the AI-related job growth is happening,” the minister said.

Vaishnaw also urged industry players to collaborate with Nasscom to help train and prepare talent for emerging AI opportunities.

Highlighting the country’s digital infrastructure push, the minister said the government’s decision to waive taxes on data centres until 2047 has triggered massive investment interest.

“We are seeing investments coming in, close to about USD 200 billion worth of investment is coming in the data centre economy,” he said.

The minister further revealed that India is building 3 major subsea cable networks to strengthen global digital connectivity. According to him, 1 network will connect Vizag to Australia and then the US, another will connect India’s southern coast to the Middle East, Europe and the east coast of the US, while the 3rd route will extend through the Cape of Good Hope to the US.

“These 3 large subsea cable networks and some more are under planning now, will give us a big base of digital infra, which will be an important part of our growth journey in the coming years,” Vaishnaw added.

He also said HP has started manufacturing AI servers in India and added that requests have now been made to Google and other companies to begin local server production as well.
