Amid growing anticipation around Apple’s first foldable smartphone, new reports suggest the company is facing delays in its production timeline, which could impact availability at launch.
According to reports, the production schedule for the iPhone Fold has been pushed back by 1 to 2 months. Apple had initially planned to begin mass production in June 2026, but this has now reportedly shifted to early August. Despite this delay, the company has not made any changes to its expected launch timeline.
The delay is said to be linked to challenges during the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase. This stage involves testing early prototypes to ensure they meet design and performance requirements. Reports indicate that Apple has faced more engineering challenges than expected while developing the foldable device.
Even with these setbacks, Apple is still expected to launch the iPhone Fold in Fall 2026. The company may try to recover lost time during later development stages such as Design Validation Testing (DVT) and Production Validation Testing (PVT).
However, the delay could affect the number of units available at launch. Reports suggest that the device may see limited availability, with a possibility of quick sell-outs during pre-orders.
At the same time, another report by a known industry journalist suggests that Apple is not currently facing a major crisis in the development process and remains on track for a launch in the first half of September.
The iPhone Fold is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 model may see its launch pushed to early 2027.
