A major cybersecurity breach at Tata Electronics, one of Apple’s key manufacturing partners in India, has reportedly exposed confidential information related to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Apple’s global supply chain. The incident has raised fresh concerns over cybersecurity as Apple continues expanding its manufacturing operations in India.
According to reports, the ransomware group World Leaks claimed responsibility for the attack and published more than 200,000 files, totalling over 630 GB of stolen data. Tata Electronics confirmed the cybersecurity incident, while Apple said it is concerned about the breach and is investigating the matter.
The leaked files reportedly contain supplier information, component details, photographs of the unreleased iPhone 18 Pro, and internal documents showing which vendors supply specific parts. The data also reveals where multiple suppliers compete for the same contracts, providing rare insight into Apple’s closely guarded manufacturing network.
Reports indicate there is currently no evidence that customer information or Apple user data has been compromised. The leaked information mainly relates to corporate operations and manufacturing processes.
Following the breach, Tata Electronics has restricted internal access and launched a forensic investigation. Cybersecurity experts believe attacks of this scale usually involve compromised credentials, weak access controls or unauthorised movement across internal systems, highlighting growing risks within global supply chains.
The incident comes at a critical time for Apple as India continues to play a larger role in its manufacturing strategy. Around 1 in 4 iPhones worldwide were assembled in India during 2025, with Tata Electronics rapidly expanding its role after entering iPhone assembly operations in 2023.
Experts believe the breach is unlikely to alter Apple’s long-term manufacturing plans in India. However, it is expected to increase scrutiny around cybersecurity, operational secrecy and supply chain resilience as Apple shifts more production away from China.
The incident also reflects the growing threat of ransomware attacks targeting manufacturing companies, where sensitive operational data has become increasingly valuable for cybercriminals.
