Apple has started rolling out iOS 26.6 for eligible iPhone models, bringing important security updates, bug fixes, and improvements to Spotlight search. The update also prepares supported devices for the advanced features expected to arrive with iOS 27, which was introduced at WWDC 2026 and is scheduled for a public release later this year.
The iOS 26.6 update is available for iPhone 11 and newer models. Users can install it by going to Settings > General > Software Update and selecting Update Now. The update can also be scheduled to install automatically overnight.
Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will introduce major upgrades to Spotlight and Siri. With iOS 26.6, the company appears to be preparing supported devices for these upcoming enhancements.
The latest update also reportedly introduces a “Blocked Contacts Limit Reached” alert, notifying users when they reach the maximum number of blocked contacts. In addition, references to a new anti-snatching security feature have been found in the iOS 26.6 beta version. The feature is designed to detect when an unlocked iPhone is suddenly snatched and automatically lock the device to prevent unauthorised access. However, this feature has not been enabled in the public release and may arrive in a future update.
Apple has also released iPadOS 26.6 for eligible iPad models. During WWDC 2026, the company unveiled iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27.
The upcoming iOS 27 update is confirmed to include Siri AI enhancements and new Visual Intelligence features. It is currently available in developer and public beta versions, with the stable release expected later this year alongside the iPhone 18 series.
