Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, has been re-appointed as a part-time, non-official director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for another 4 years.
According to an RBI press release issued on Thursday, the new term took effect on August 20, 2026, and will continue for 4 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment was made by the Central government and takes effect immediately.
The re-appointment allows Mahindra to continue serving on the central bank’s apex board. The Central Board is the RBI’s highest decision-making body and includes the RBI Governor, Deputy Governors and directors appointed by the Central government.
Mahindra leads the Mahindra Group, one of India’s major diversified business groups, with interests across automobiles, farm equipment, technology, financial services, hospitality and other sectors.
His continued presence on the RBI Central Board brings corporate experience to the institution as monetary policy, financial stability and broader economic conditions remain important areas of focus for businesses and policymakers.
As a non-official director, Mahindra serves in a role separate from the RBI’s executive leadership. His board appointment is also distinct from his responsibilities as chairman of the Mahindra Group.
The RBI announcement did not disclose changes involving other board members or provide details of Mahindra’s earlier tenure. It only confirmed his re-appointment for 4 years from August 20, 2026, or until further orders.
The announcement was issued by the RBI’s Department of Communication from its Central Office in Mumbai.
