JSW Steel Dolvi has appointed Amit Sarkar as Chief Operating Officer, assigning him responsibility for the operations and maintenance of its 10 MTPA integrated steel plant, which is planned to expand to 15 MTPA over the next year.
Sarkar brings more than 30 years of experience in steelmaking and integrated manufacturing operations, including 18 years with JSW Steel.
Before taking up the COO role, he served as Senior Vice President at JSW Steel’s Dolvi operations. He oversaw integrated ironmaking, agglomeration, raw material handling systems and jetty operations, along with productivity, asset reliability, maintenance strategy, shutdown planning, safety and operational continuity.
Earlier, Sarkar spent nearly 6 years as Vice President at JSW Steel in Bellary, Karnataka. His responsibilities included steel melting, hot strip mill and lime plant operations, as well as production planning. He also contributed to major capacity expansion and commissioning projects, including the commissioning of a large BOF converter and Hot Strip Mill-2.
As General Manager at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works, Sarkar led steel melting operations and supported the expansion of SMS-II capacity from 1.9 MTPA to 6.8 MTPA. He also worked on the adoption of advanced steelmaking technologies, automation and digitalisation.
Before joining JSW Steel in 2008, Sarkar spent more than 14 years with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) as a Senior Manager in Rourkela, Odisha. His experience there covered BOF operations, maintenance, production planning, commissioning and operational stabilisation.
Sarkar began his career in 1992 as an Assistant Engineer at JEMCO, where he worked in cast iron and cast steel manufacturing.
He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. His experience across steelmaking, operational excellence, capacity expansion, asset reliability, process technology and people leadership will support JSW Steel Dolvi as it moves into its next phase of growth.
