Amazon expands ultra-fast delivery network with 30-minute shipping service in the US

Amazon is expanding its fast-delivery strategy with the launch of “Amazon Now,” a new 30-minute delivery service introduced across several major cities in the US.

The service allows customers to order from thousands of products, including fresh groceries, household essentials and locally relevant items. At launch, Amazon Now is available in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Seattle. The company is also expanding the service to Austin, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Oklahoma City and Phoenix.

Amazon said the rollout will continue across the US, with plans to reach tens of millions of customers by the end of the year.

Eligible products on the Amazon app and website will carry “30-minute delivery” labels, making it easier for customers to identify items available for ultra-fast shipping.

The company first tested the service in Seattle and Philadelphia in December, entering direct competition with quick-commerce platforms such as DoorDash, Uber Eats and Instacart.

Amazon Now also focuses on competitive pricing. Prime members will pay a delivery fee of $3.99 per order, while non-Prime users will be charged $13.99. Orders below $15.00 will include an extra small-order fee of $1.99 for Prime members and $3.99 for non-members.

To support faster deliveries, Amazon is using smaller fulfillment centres located closer to customers instead of relying only on large warehouses. These locations carry a limited range of products, helping reduce travel time and speed up deliveries.

Available items include fresh produce, dairy products, bakery goods, personal care products, healthcare items, electronics, baby products, pet supplies and alcohol where permitted. In most locations, the service will operate 24 hours a day.

“Amazon Now is for when you need or want the convenience of getting your Amazon order delivered in 30 minutes or less,” said Udit Madan, Senior Vice President, Amazon Worldwide Operations.

Amazon also continues to offer 1-hour, 3-hour and same-day delivery options, while testing under-60-minute drone deliveries through Prime Air in 8 US locations.
