Akasa Air launches leasing arm to drive fleet growth and funding flexibility

In a strategic move to strengthen its financial operations, Akasa Air has launched a new subsidiary focused on aircraft leasing and financing. The new entity aims to improve cost efficiency, increase flexibility, and access global funding sources.

The unit, named Akasa Air Leasing IFSC Private Limited (AALI), is based in GIFT City. It is expected to play a key role in supporting the airline’s long-term growth plans.

AALI will gradually finance a majority of Akasa Air’s aircraft, making it easier for the airline to expand its fleet. The airline currently operates 38 Boeing 737 MAX jets and has placed orders for 226 more.

The move is also aligned with India’s broader push to develop a domestic aircraft leasing ecosystem. Other major carriers like IndiGo and Air India have already set up similar leasing units in GIFT City.

With this initiative, Akasa Air aims to strengthen its financial structure while supporting the growth of India’s aviation leasing industry.
