Ajay Bhadoo, the Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Government e Marketplace (GeM), effective March 3, 2025. This announcement comes as GeM, India’s largest online platform for government procurement, prepares to evolve into a next-gen digital marketplace, powered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Bhadoo’s new role will be in addition to his ongoing responsibilities within the Department of Commerce. With over 20 years of experience in policy making and implementation across various sectors, Bhadoo’s leadership is expected to play a key role in GeM’s transition into a more advanced platform.
A 1999-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Gujarat cadre, Bhadoo brings a wealth of expertise, having held important roles in urban infrastructure development, election management, and government administration. In August 2024, he was appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce. Prior to that, Bhadoo was the Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India.
Throughout his distinguished career, Bhadoo has held various leadership positions, including Joint Secretary to the former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board, and Commissioner for Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporations.
Bhadoo is a graduate in Civil Engineering and also holds a Master’s degree in Business Law from the prestigious National Law School of India University in Bengaluru. His vast experience and skills in governance and administration make him a strong fit to lead GeM into its next phase of growth and transformation.
