Marking a major milestone for India’s newest aviation hub, Air India Express will launch direct flights between Navi Mumbai International Airport and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi from July 15, making Abu Dhabi the first international destination to be connected to the airport.
The new service will begin with flight IX207 departing Navi Mumbai at 2:55 am local time and arriving in Abu Dhabi at 4:35 am UAE time after a flight duration of 3 hours and 10 minutes. The return flight, IX208, will leave Abu Dhabi at 5:45 am local time and reach Navi Mumbai at 10:20 am local time.
Initially, the route will operate 2 times a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Return fares between Mumbai and Abu Dhabi start from ₹29,000, subject to travel dates and seat availability.
Navi Mumbai International Airport commenced domestic operations in December and was developed to help reduce congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Built on a greenfield site across Mumbai Harbour, the airport was envisioned more than 20 years ago as a long-term solution to growing passenger traffic and capacity challenges in the region.
Air India Express, the low-cost arm of Air India, already operates services between Abu Dhabi and Mumbai’s existing international airport. The launch of international operations from Navi Mumbai marks the next phase in the airport’s expansion.
The development also comes as the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority announced the full resumption of air traffic operations on June 24. While some international airlines continue to monitor the evolving situation, several carriers have maintained regular services through Abu Dhabi.
Etihad Airways recently announced plans for its busiest summer season yet, with more than 300 flights scheduled daily. Airlines including Air India, Air India Express, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Saudia and IndiGo currently operate daily services from Zayed International Airport.
Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines has confirmed the resumption of Abu Dhabi flights from July 1 and will increase its Dubai operations from 7 to 14 weekly flights beginning June 25.
