Indian citizens can enter the United Arab Emirates without a pre approved visa if they hold valid long term visas or residence permits from certain countries. This facility has been available for some time and is designed to make short visits easier for Indian passport holders who live or work abroad.
Travellers who have a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union countries, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada can obtain a visa on arrival in the UAE. The document is issued at major entry points, including airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. Foreign visas that are expired or cancelled are not accepted.
Visitors can choose from two visa options depending on the length of stay. A fourteen day visa costs one hundred dirhams and can be extended once for another fourteen days at a fee of two hundred fifty dirhams. A longer sixty day visa is available for two hundred fifty dirhams. Payment is made at the airport and extensions must be completed before the visa expires.
The facility is available to Indian citizens and their family members with ordinary passports, as long as they also have one of the following: a valid United States tourist visa, residence permit or green card; a valid United Kingdom or European Union tourist visa or residence permit; or a valid visa, residence permit or green card from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
The visa on arrival is a single entry permit and cannot be converted into any other type of residency or employment visa. Travellers must exit the UAE or renew their status before the visa expires to avoid penalties. This option has become popular among Indian professionals and families holding overseas residency, offering convenient access to the UAE for tourism, business visits or transit.
