Nagpur cybercrime police arrests Pokhran youth in multi-crore online fraud case

A youth from Pokhran town in Jaisalmer was arrested on Thursday by the cybercrime team of Sadar police station, Nagpur, Maharashtra, in connection with a large-scale online fraud involving crores of rupees.

Acting on a tip-off that four suspects from Pokhran were wanted in the case, the Nagpur police arrived in the town early in the morning and coordinated with the local police to track down the accused.

According to officials, the police had received information that the suspects would be present at the court premises for a hearing. The teams increased surveillance in and around the court area. On spotting the police, the accused tried to escape, triggering a chase through the main intersection of the town. During the pursuit, police apprehended one suspect identified as Ajay Vishnoi, a resident of Khetolai. His three associates, Manish from Dholiya, Anil from Jaluwala, and Sunil, managed to flee despite an extended chase up to Jainarayan Vyas Circle.

Pokhran deputy superintendent of police Bhawani Singh confirmed that only Ajay was caught, while efforts are ongoing to locate the others. Ajay was presented in the Pokhran court, which granted his transit remand, after which he was handed over to the Nagpur police for further investigation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ajay and his accomplices were running a fraudulent online operation, tricking people into performing fake online tasks and cheating them out of large sums of money.

Police teams have intensified their search operations in and around Pokhran with the help of local authorities to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the defrauded funds.

The arrest underscores the rising threat of cybercrime and highlights the importance of coordination between police departments across states. The case remains under active investigation.
