A major boost to rail connectivity was announced as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Banaras railway station in Varanasi. The trains were flagged off virtually and will operate on the routes between Banaras and Khajuraho, Lucknow and Saharanpur, Firozpur and Delhi, and Ernakulam and Bengaluru.
During the launch, the Prime Minister said the new trains will strengthen regional travel and bring more comfort to passengers. “These Vande Bharat trains will enhance connectivity and provide greater comfort to citizens. They will reduce travel time, enhance regional mobility, promote tourism, and support economic activity across the country,” he said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries were present for the event held at the Banaras railway station.
The Prime Minister spoke about the rapid development of India’s transport infrastructure and highlighted the role of modern trains in this progress. “With so many Vande Bharat trains running and flights arriving from countries across the world, all these developments are now linked to growth. Today, India too is moving rapidly on this path,” he said. He added that new services such as Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat and Amrit Bharat are shaping the future of Indian Railways.
He also reflected on the importance of pilgrimage locations in Uttar Pradesh, noting that development efforts over the past eleven years have transformed these sites. He said the economic contribution of devotees visiting these places has brought in thousands of crores to the state. The government aims to ensure that those coming to Varanasi experience a visit that is both comfortable and memorable.
The launch of the four trains marks another step in expanding fast, modern and efficient train travel across the country.
