Kayak introduces AI Mode to simplify travel planning and bookings

Kayak has launched a new “AI Mode” feature that allows users to research trips, ask travel-related questions, and book flights, hotels, and rental cars using an AI chatbot. The tool is integrated directly into Kayak’s website and is available on both desktop and mobile platforms.

The AI Mode takes advantage of Kayak’s integration with ChatGPT to deliver contextual results, providing travelers with tailored suggestions and comparisons. Users can explore travel ideas, find the best deals, check nonstop flights, compare hotel amenities, and locate rental car options. The chatbot also handles open-ended questions, such as “I want to party for NYE — where should I go?” or advise on the best time to fly based on ticket prices.

This new feature builds on Kayak’s April launch of Kayak.ai, which served as a testing ground for AI technology using the company’s data and tools. Essentially, AI Mode brings the same functionality directly into Kayak.com, offering travelers a smoother and more interactive planning experience.

AI Mode is currently available in English in the United States, with plans to expand to additional countries, languages, and platforms later this month. Voice-based queries will also be supported in future updates.

The move reflects the growing adoption of AI in the travel industry, as companies aim to make online booking less tedious. While other travel providers, including Expedia and Booking.com, have integrated AI solutions into platforms like ChatGPT, Kayak’s approach keeps users directly on its site, allowing the company to gather insights into AI usage and traveler preferences.

This development positions Kayak to better assist consumers in the early stages of travel planning, making it easier to explore options, compare choices, and make informed bookings.
