Punjab Police Arrest Four Youngsters In Multi Crore Cyber Fraud Mule Account Racket

The Cyber Crime Wing of Punjab Police has busted a major interstate mule account racket accused of duping thousands of citizens of crores of rupees across India. The arrests were made with support from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs and shed light on the fast rising threat of digital fraud networks exploiting banking loopholes and vulnerable individuals.

Four men aged between 21 and 24 years from Amritsar and Fazilka districts were taken into custody for providing bank accounts to cybercriminals in exchange for commissions. These mule accounts were used to move illicit funds and enable large scale fraudulent transactions across the country.

During the operation, police officials recovered ₹10.96 lakh in cash, nine mobile phones, 32 debit cards, 10 SIM cards, and 15 bank passbooks. The recovery highlights the organised setup of the racket which was carefully designed to evade detection.

Investigators confirmed that the accused were part of a wider interstate network that maintained multiple bank accounts to launder proceeds of cyber fraud. Such mule accounts are commonly used by scamsters to create layers between themselves and their crimes, making it harder for law enforcement to trace the money trail.

Police said the breakthrough was made possible through joint intelligence sharing with I4C and underlined the importance of coordinated efforts to tackle financial cybercrime on a national scale. Police authorities also issued a strong warning to the public against sharing banking credentials or offering accounts for quick money, reminding that even minor participation in mule account activities can lead to strict legal action.

Investigations are still underway to identify more members of the syndicate and officials indicated that further arrests are expected. Punjab Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring digital safety and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately to cybercrime helplines.
