The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Royal Government of Bhutan have forged a new partnership to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in fostering inclusive and sustainable development. This collaboration was highlighted during a two-day workshop titled “AI for Development,” held in Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu.
The workshop served as a crucial platform for identifying AI-based solutions specifically tailored to address Bhutan’s unique developmental needs. Key areas of focus included leveraging AI to support entrepreneurship, advance regenerative tourism practices, and significantly boost agricultural productivity within the Himalayan kingdom.
This initiative underscores both nations’ commitment to utilizing cutting-edge technology for societal benefit. The UAE, a global leader in AI adoption and innovation, is sharing its expertise to help Bhutan integrate AI into its national development strategies, aligning with Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness.
“This partnership represents a shared vision for a future where technology serves as a powerful enabler for sustainable growth and inclusivity,” stated a representative from the UAE. “We are excited to collaborate with Bhutan in exploring how AI can be applied to address real-world challenges and create tangible benefits for its citizens.”
A Bhutanese official emphasized the importance of this collaboration for the country’s long-term development goals. “Embracing AI responsibly can help us achieve our national objectives, particularly in areas like economic diversification and environmental sustainability,” they noted. “This workshop has laid the groundwork for practical applications of AI that can truly make a difference in the lives of our people.”
The collaboration is expected to pave the way for concrete AI projects that support Bhutan’s unique development pathway, demonstrating how advanced technologies can be harmoniously integrated with national values and environmental stewardship.
