TikTok Shop’s US E-commerce Division Undergoes Third Round of Layoffs

TikTok is implementing further workforce reductions within its US e-commerce division, TikTok Shop. This marks the third wave of layoffs for the team since April, as the company continues to restructure its operations.

A spokesperson for TikTok stated that these adjustments are being made to better align with evolving strategic priorities, aiming to ensure the long-term success of the business. These organizational changes follow a year in which the TikTok Shop division reportedly fell short of its internal sales targets.

In addition to the layoffs, the team has been systematically replacing US-hired staff with managers who have stronger connections to China. This strategic shift is aimed at replicating the significant e-commerce success achieved by its parent company, ByteDance Ltd., across Asia.

Despite these ongoing structural changes, TikTok Shop remains a critical component of the social media app’s business. It has been highlighted as TikTok’s fastest-growing segment and continues to be a major global focus for ByteDance.
