WestJet Airlines of Canada said in a statement on Friday that it is looking into a cybersecurity issue that has interfered with access to its internal systems and mobile app, impacting an unspecified number of users.
According to WestJet, specialized internal teams are collaborating with Transport Canada and law enforcement to assess the extent of the violation and mitigate its effects.
“We are expediting efforts to safeguard sensitive data and personal information for both our guests and employees,” the company said, adding it was too early to speculate on the scope or cause of the incident.
WestJet’s operations are secure and unaffected, according to a company spokeswoman.
Cyber threats to Canada’s vital infrastructure have increased.
A cyber incident involving unauthorized access to portions of their network and business systems was revealed earlier in April by energy supplier Emera and its subsidiary Nova Scotia Power.
