In a graceful transition at the helm of one of Canada’s prominent financial institutions, Raymond Gatcliffe has been appointed as the new Country Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Canada, taking over from John Hastings, who will continue to serve on the bank’s board of directors.
Gatcliffe’s connection to Citi runs deep. With over three decades of dedicated service to the global banking giant, he began his journey in Citi Trinidad back in 1994. His most recent leadership role was based in New York, where he guided Citi’s Commercial Bank operations across North America, cultivating deep insights into cross-border business landscapes and strategic banking frameworks.
In his new role, Gatcliffe will oversee Citibank’s entire strategic roadmap in Canada, a task that involves not just operational leadership, but also nurturing the bank’s relationships with its broad client base, and expanding Citi’s impact in a nation known for its global economic outlook.
“Having spent some of my formative years living here, I am thrilled to be back in Canada leveraging my experience with Citi in leading our franchise,” shared Gatcliffe, his words echoing both pride and purpose.
He continued, “Canadian companies are internationally focused and we look forward to continuing to support them with Citi’s leading global products and network.”
As Canada continues to play a key role in international finance, Gatcliffe’s global experience paired with his personal familiarity with the country makes his appointment both timely and strategic. His leadership arrives at a pivotal moment, as Citibank aims to further solidify its footprint in a market known for innovation, resilience, and international trade ambition.
The new CEO brings not just professional excellence, but also a personal connection, a returning voice who once called Canada home, now leading one of its major banking institutions into the future.
