A New Chapter in Tamil Nadu’s Tech Tale: Dixon Technologies Unveils Mega Electronics Hub Near Chennai

In a groundbreaking move poised to reshape Tamil Nadu’s industrial landscape, Dixon Technologies has inked a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing plant in Oragadam, nestled about 45 kilometers from Chennai’s bustling core.

Dixon’s initiative, backed by an investment of Rs. 1000 crore, will find its home within the Indospace Industrial Park, a thriving hub known for nurturing innovation and industry. The envisioned facility will breathe life into the production of laptops and all-in-one personal computers, with its initial focus dedicated to the manufacturing of HP laptops. Alongside, Dixon will also serve as a cradle for electronic manufacturing services, supporting a range of global tech players.

Industries Minister T R B Rajaa eloquently tied the dots between this current leap and a promise made in the past year. “The proposed facility where HP laptops will be manufactured first,” he confirmed, shining light on the government’s continuity in delivering its industrial promises. The project is anticipated to create over 5,000 jobs, a majority likely to uplift the youth and women of the region.

The MoU was formally exchanged at the Secretariat, witnessed by a galaxy of dignitaries including Chief Minister M K Stalin, Industries Minister Rajaa himself, and Darez Ahamed, the dynamic MD & CEO of Guidance, Tamil Nadu’s flagship investment promotion agency. Representing Dixon Technologies were Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani and Vice President Prithvi Vachani, both of whom exuded confidence in the region’s promise.

Founded in 1993, Dixon Technologies has carved its name as a formidable force in the electronics world. Its portfolio spans consumer electronics, mobile devices, and LED lighting, with top-tier clients such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Boat, Panasonic, TCL Technologies, and OnePlus benefiting from its precision-led contract manufacturing.

Tamil Nadu, with its rich heritage of industry and innovation, stands today as India’s second-largest economy. The Economic Survey 2024-25 celebrates the state’s unrelenting drive to court investment and generate meaningful employment—especially empowering women through industrial inclusion.

This grand partnership between the state and Dixon Technologies paints a hopeful horizon for the future of technology, employment, and empowerment in southern India.
