Operant AI Expands to India to Address Growing AI Security Needs

US-based cybersecurity startup Operant AI is making its debut in India to tackle the rising demand for AI security solutions. Established in 2021, Operant AI specializes in providing real-time protection mechanisms for AI-driven software, aiming to safeguard AI applications from evolving security threats.

Co-founder Vrajesh Bhavsar explained that the company’s expansion into India is fueled by the increasing need for security solutions that can match the rapid advancements in AI technology. He highlighted the urgency of securing AI applications as new technologies emerge at a fast pace. “There’s so much new tech coming so fast that people are just running with it without actually figuring out what is secure, what is trustworthy, and how to be responsible about these things,” Bhavsar shared. “Eventually, as we’ve seen through many cycles before, if you just run into some technology blindly, it comes back to bite you later.”

Bhavsar also pointed out that sectors like healthcare and finance in India stand to benefit the most from Operant AI’s offerings, which focus on safeguarding AI models, data pipelines, and decision-making processes. While the company has not disclosed its Indian clients or partnerships, it confirmed ongoing discussions with multiple organizations in the country. Bhavsar stated, “We know that India is going to be a key player in the global AI landscape, and security has to be part of that conversation from day one.”

Operant AI’s platform provides real-time security, detecting and defending against vulnerabilities specific to AI systems. As AI adoption grows across industries in India, Operant sees an opportunity to protect enterprises from emerging cyber threats that traditional security methods may not detect. AI models, unlike conventional software, can be manipulated in ways that are difficult to identify with standard security practices.

Bhavsar emphasized the unique nature of AI security, saying, “The risks are very different from what companies are used to dealing with. It’s not just about keeping hackers out; it’s about ensuring that AI models don’t get poisoned, that data pipelines aren’t compromised, and that decisions made by AI systems can be trusted.”

Operant AI’s security solution is designed to integrate quickly, providing immediate protection within minutes of deployment, ensuring that security does not hinder innovation. “Security is often an afterthought in AI development but that approach doesn’t work anymore,” Bhavsar added. “AI models evolve continuously, and threats evolve with them.”

In 2024, Operant AI raised $10 million in a Series A funding round to help fuel its expansion. As the company enters India, it will compete with other cybersecurity firms focusing on AI-specific solutions.
