Zomato to roll out Mehmaan Mode for price-free menu browsing

Sharing a phone to place a food order for friends and family could soon become more convenient, as Zomato prepares to introduce a feature that lets guests browse dishes without seeing their prices. Called Mehmaan Mode, the feature is designed to help hosts organise group meals without making guests feel conscious about the cost of their choices.

Zomato’s Mehmaan Mode explained

The idea was proposed by LinkedIn user Ayushmaan Agarwalla, who tagged Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal in a post. Agarwalla suggested introducing a dedicated mode, particularly during festival seasons, that temporarily hides menu prices.

The feature would allow hosts to hand their phones to guests so they can select dishes freely. Once everyone has made their choices, the host could take back the device and complete the payment. Agarwalla noted that phones are increasingly being shared to place group orders, making such an option useful.

Goyal responded to the suggestion with the comment, “Thanks for the suggestion. Shipping it this week”, indicating that the feature is expected to roll out this week.

However, Zomato has not yet explained how users will activate Mehmaan Mode or confirmed whether it will be available to everyone at launch. Further details are expected from the company.
