BMW Group Malaysia has appointed Raymond Tan as Managing Director, bringing him back to the Malaysian business after senior regional leadership roles covering Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
Tan most recently served as Managing Director, BMW Group Importer Region Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, where he led the company’s business across the 3 markets. He previously served as Head of Sales for the same importer region, gaining extensive experience in commercial strategy and market development.
His new appointment marks a return to BMW Group Malaysia, where he previously held the positions of Head of Sales and Head of Marketing. In these roles, he worked across sales strategy, marketing, customer engagement and commercial development in the Malaysian premium automotive market.
Earlier in his BMW career, Tan served as Regional Product Manager in Munich and Product and Price Planning Manager in Malaysia. These positions gave him experience in product strategy, portfolio planning and pricing.
Before joining BMW Group, Tan worked with Proton, where he became Head of the Cost Improvement Unit after beginning his career as a Rapid Prototyping Engineer.
His career has since progressed across engineering, product management, marketing, sales and general management, giving him experience across several areas of the automotive value chain.
Tan holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Malaya.
As Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, he will draw on his knowledge of the local automotive market and regional leadership experience as the company continues to develop its BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad businesses in Malaysia.
