Meta connect 2026: Meta expands AI glasses with Muse, Dolby Atmos and new accessibility features

At Meta Connect 2026, the company unveiled new AI-powered glasses and expanded their capabilities with its Muse personal AI agent, spatial audio, improved cameras and accessibility features

Muse Comes to Meta’s AI Glasses

One of the key announcements at Meta Connect 2026 was the integration of Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, with its AI glasses.

Unlike a conventional voice assistant that primarily responds to questions, Muse is designed to carry out tasks and work with connected services. Meta says the agent can help users manage activities, turn longer-term goals into action plans and perform tasks on their behalf.

On AI glasses, this interaction is designed to remain hands-free. Users can access Muse through voice while going about their day, potentially reducing the need to reach for a smartphone for routine tasks.

Meta says Muse operates through a dedicated secure virtual environment and can interact with websites and connected services. The company is positioning this as an important part of its broader effort to make AI more useful in everyday situations rather than limiting it to conventional chat interfaces.

Meta Expands Its AI Glasses Line-up

Meta also announced a wider range of AI glasses through its partnership with EssilorLuxottica.

The company said it plans to offer more than 100 different glasses options across Ray-Ban, Oakley and Meta Glasses by the end of the year. The expanded portfolio will include different frame designs, lighter options, slimmer profiles and models with longer battery life.

The strategy reflects Meta’s attempt to make AI glasses less like a specialised technology product and more like an everyday eyewear category.

Alongside the expansion, Meta introduced new versions of its Ray-Ban Meta glasses with updated hardware, controls and battery improvements.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio Drops the Camera

Meta Connect 2026 also saw the introduction of Ray-Ban Meta Audio, the company’s first audio-only glasses.

Unlike Meta’s camera-equipped AI glasses, the new model focuses on audio, calls and AI interaction without a camera. Meta says the glasses weigh 43 grams and can provide up to 12 hours of use on a single charge, with additional battery capacity available through the charging case.

The glasses are being offered in two Ray-Ban styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, with multiple colour and lens combinations. Pre-orders begin at $349 in the US, with shipments scheduled to begin on October 13.

The introduction gives Meta a way to extend its wearable strategy beyond visual capture, while retaining hands-free access to audio and AI.

Dolby Atmos Brings Spatial Audio to the Glasses

Audio was another major focus at Meta Connect 2026.

Meta and Dolby announced the expansion of Dolby experiences across Meta’s ecosystem, including AI glasses, Instagram and VR devices. Meta’s AI glasses will become the first global consumer device capable of capturing audio in Dolby Atmos, according to Dolby.

The technology is designed to capture spatial audio along with video, allowing users to record and share experiences with greater depth in the sound field.

The move also points to a wider evolution in how wearable cameras are being used. Instead of simply recording video, Meta is looking to capture a more complete representation of an experience, combining visual content with spatial sound.

New Camera and Everyday Features

Meta also introduced improvements to its camera-equipped glasses.

The latest generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses features enhanced imaging capabilities and new controls. Meta is also adding features designed to give users greater flexibility when capturing photographs and video.

Beyond photography, Meta is expanding the glasses’ ability to understand and respond to what users see around them. The company has highlighted use cases including translation, navigation, information about objects and places, and contextual assistance.

This makes the camera an increasingly important component of the AI experience rather than simply a tool for recording content.

Accessibility Gets Greater Focus

Accessibility was another area of development announced at the event.

Meta is introducing a Hearing Enhancement feature intended to assist adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. The feature is expected to be available on compatible glasses later this year.

The company is also improving the way its AI responds to questions about objects, surroundings and visual information. Such capabilities could make AI glasses useful in situations where users need additional contextual information without having to interact with a separate device.

From Smart Glasses to Hands-Free Computing

The announcements at Meta Connect 2026 show Meta broadening its approach to AI glasses beyond cameras and voice commands.

Muse adds an agentic layer that can interact with services and help complete tasks. Dolby Atmos expands the glasses’ role as a content-capture device, while accessibility and contextual AI features add practical use cases.

The larger shift is towards making AI available through a device that remains part of the user’s physical environment. Instead of opening an app or reaching for a phone, users can increasingly interact with AI through their glasses, using voice, vision and audio.

Meta’s challenge now lies in making these capabilities useful without making the technology intrusive. As AI glasses become more capable of understanding their surroundings and acting on users’ behalf, questions around privacy, permissions and control will remain central to their adoption.

At Meta Connect 2026, however, the direction was clear: Meta is treating AI glasses not simply as another wearable, but as a potential everyday interface between people, their surroundings and increasingly capable AI systems.
