upGrad has expanded the leadership responsibilities of Koell Hemdev, appointing her as General Counsel & Chief Human Resources Officer.
In her new role, she will oversee the company’s legal and people functions while also leading a new initiative focused on building a stronger community for alumni and prospective learners.
Hemdev joined upGrad in 2017 and has led its legal function for the past 9 years. During this period, she built the function from the ground up and supported the company through several complex and high-growth phases.
With her expanded mandate, Hemdev will now take charge of the HR function alongside legal, bringing governance and people responsibilities under a single leadership structure.
Her role will also include strengthening the company’s alumni and prospective learner community as upGrad moves into its next phase of growth.
Commenting on her elevation, Koell Hemdev, General Counsel & Chief Human Resources Officer, upGrad, said: “As upGrad has grown, so has the need for functions that used to operate independently to speak with one voice.
