As artificial intelligence becomes more common in classrooms, Google is expanding AI training for teachers and educators across India. The company will host free online and in-person Google AI Educator Training Sessions this week as part of its Google AI Educator Series.
The sessions are aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and will focus on practical ways educators can use Gemini and other AI tools in their daily work. This includes teaching, assessments, feedback and administrative tasks.
Google said the programme was developed based on feedback from educators seeking more training and practical guidance on using AI while maintaining the human connection between teachers and students.
AI training focuses on practical classroom needs
According to Google, teachers it consulted were generally positive about the role AI can play in education. Many educators said they wanted AI to help them find new and creative ways to teach.
However, teachers also raised concerns that technology could affect their relationships with students and fellow educators. Google said technology should not replace these relationships but should help teachers spend more time interacting directly with students.
The latest training programme has been designed around this feedback and everyday classroom requirements.
What educators will learn
The free training sessions will introduce teachers to the basics of AI and practical applications of Gemini. Topics will include discipline-specific learning, reducing administrative work, improving feedback and assessments, and supporting teachers’ professional development.
Google said the goal is to help educators use AI effectively while keeping teaching and learning at the centre.
The programme will also introduce approaches such as Guided Learning in Gemini. Google said the feature is designed to help students build a deeper understanding rather than simply receive answers.
Reducing time spent on routine tasks is another key focus. Google said greater comfort with AI could help educators reclaim valuable hours each week, allowing them to use that time for more meaningful interaction with students.
