Haryana Police is preparing to bring artificial intelligence deeper into its policing systems, with a new IPS-led AI Task Force set to focus on technology-driven investigations, especially cybercrime and financial fraud.
The move comes as criminals increasingly rely on digital tools, leaving investigators with growing volumes of digital evidence, banking records, mobile data and online activity to examine.
DGP Ajay Singhal said AI could help analyse large datasets faster, identify important leads and improve investigation accuracy, while keeping human judgement central to policing.
“We can look at AI not merely as a new technology, but as an important tool for strengthening policing in the future,” Singhal said. He stressed that AI would support police officers rather than replace their experience and expertise.
The task force will identify areas where AI can be deployed, introduce solutions into existing police systems and strengthen the technological skills of police personnel.
AI to help trace financial fraud
One of the key initiatives is AI-assisted Financial Trail Analysis. The system is being developed to help cybercrime investigators map suspicious transactions, identify patterns, trace possible fund flows and establish connections between accounts and activities.
SP (Cyber) Mayank Gupta said manually examining large volumes of financial and digital records takes considerable time. AI-assisted preliminary analysis could speed up the process, allowing investigators to concentrate on verification, interrogation and other human-led parts of an investigation.
AI tools for complaints and court data
Haryana Police is also developing an in-house Grievance Management System and a Court Returns Portal using AI-based technologies. These systems are expected to improve complaint handling, court-related information management, data processing and follow-up actions.
The task force is also expected to examine wider AI applications in digital evidence analysis, document processing, crime-pattern detection and data analytics.
The initiative signals a shift towards data-driven and intelligence-led policing. Haryana Police aims to move from “data to insight” and “insight to action”, while keeping AI under human oversight and accountability.
