The growing incidence of cyber-enabled financial fraud has put 4 Bihar districts under greater scrutiny, with Nawada, Nalanda, Patna and Sheikhpura identified among the country’s hotspots for illegal withdrawals from ATMs and bank accounts.
The state government is now intensifying public awareness around the national cyber helpline 1930. The issue was reviewed at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and DGP Vinay Kumar on Friday.
Officials said 6,251 mule bank accounts have been verified so far. Legal action has been taken against 70 people, while 507 people have been arrested. Authorities have also ordered the restoration of Rs 224 lakh to cyber fraud victims across 5,642 cases.
The state has disposed of 98% of complaints related to the unjustified freezing of bank accounts. It has also removed 75.65% of illegal cyber content through the Sahyog portal.
The chief secretary directed officials to expand awareness of the 1930 helpline through electricity bills, Sudha dairy products, municipal LED screens and educational institutions.
Authorities have also been directed to register e-Zero FIRs in cyber fraud cases involving Rs 1 lakh or more. Officials were further asked to step up action against mule bank accounts and fake SIM card networks.
