Belize Bank Limited is moving ahead with a major digital banking upgrade through a new 6-year partnership with Backbase. The initiative will bring AI-native banking capabilities to retail and business customers across Belize.
Under the agreement, Belize Bank will deploy Backbase’s AI-native Banking OS to simplify customer journeys, speed up digital onboarding and provide instant self-service options. The transformation is expected to cut service resolution times from days to minutes while creating a unified digital experience for retail and business customers.

Belize Bank serves more than 100,000 retail and business customers and controls around 43% of the country’s banking assets. The new initiative builds on its earlier migration of its core banking platform to the cloud.
Backbase’s Banking OS will work alongside the bank’s existing Finastra core banking platform through the company’s Connectivity Layer. This will allow Belize Bank to introduce modern digital services without replacing its underlying core system.
The deployment also brings together solutions from Backbase marketplace partners, including Feedzai for fraud prevention, Jumio for digital identity verification and DocuSign for electronic signatures. Together, these technologies will support a unified digital banking environment.
Filippo Alario, Executive Chairman of Belize Bank Limited, said the partnership marks an important step towards providing customers with a more intelligent and personalised banking experience.
Backbase said the partnership strengthens its presence in the Caribbean banking market. Belize Bank said the initiative will help it deliver scalable, AI-enabled digital banking services while supporting future growth and changing customer expectations.
