Google rolls out Select from Screen feature for Gemini in Chrome

Google has introduced a new feature called “Select from Screen” for Gemini in Chrome, making it easier for users to search and interact with AI using on-screen content. The feature is rolling out with Chrome version 149 and allows users to highlight parts of a webpage and send them directly to Gemini for assistance.

The new tool works similarly to Google’s Circle to Search feature available on mobile devices. Instead of manually describing what they see, users can simply select a specific section of the screen and ask Gemini questions about it.

According to Google, the feature can help users compare products, understand diagrams, redesign webpage elements, or explore ideas more efficiently. Once a section is selected, it is automatically attached to the Gemini prompt for analysis.

To use the feature, users need to open Chrome on their computer, click Ask Gemini at the top of the browser, select the Add (+) menu, choose Select from Screen, highlight the desired area, enter their query, and submit it. Users can also resize or reposition the selected area before sending the request. Pressing Esc exits the selection mode.

Google says the feature is available with Chrome version 149. Users who have already updated Chrome may need to restart their browser before the option appears. The latest browser version can be checked through Settings > About Chrome.

The addition of Select from Screen further expands Gemini’s capabilities inside Chrome, offering users a faster and more intuitive way to access AI-powered assistance without switching between apps or manually entering information.
