CJI Surya Kant refuses relief to cyber fraud accused, calls criminals "parasites"

Highlighting the growing threat posed by cybercrime, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant strongly criticised cyber criminals and refused to grant relief to an accused involved in an alleged online fraud case.

During the hearing, CJI Surya Kant described cyber criminals as “parasites” and expressed concern over the increasing number of people falling victim to online scams. He stressed that such crimes are causing significant financial and emotional damage to citizens and require strict action.

The court declined to provide relief to the accused, underlining the seriousness of cyber offences. The Chief Justice observed that individuals involved in such crimes exploit innocent people and undermine trust in digital systems.

The remarks came while hearing a plea filed by an accused seeking relief in a cyber fraud case. The bench made it clear that cybercrime cases cannot be viewed lightly, given their growing impact on society and the economy.

CJI Surya Kant also pointed out that online fraudsters prey on vulnerable people and misuse technology for illegal gains. He emphasised the need to tackle cybercrime firmly and ensure accountability for those involved.

With digital transactions and online services becoming more widespread, authorities and courts are increasingly focusing on strengthening the fight against cyber fraud. The observations from the country’s top court reflect a tougher approach towards financial scams and technology-enabled crimes.

The case once again highlights the rising challenge posed by cybercriminals and the importance of stronger safeguards to protect citizens from online fraud.
