AI era pushes GCCs beyond execution to enterprise transformation

As artificial intelligence reshapes businesses worldwide, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are moving beyond their traditional role of delivering solutions and are increasingly becoming key drivers of enterprise outcomes, AI adoption and innovation.

During a recent industry discussion held in partnership with Accenture, experts highlighted that the next generation of GCCs will focus on redesigning work, orchestrating ecosystems and accelerating AI adoption at scale.

Lalit Ahuja, Founder and CEO of ANSR, said AI adoption depends heavily on enterprise context, making GCCs more deeply integrated with business operations. He noted that 15-20% of existing GCCs are already experimenting with AI across functions, while newer centres are being built as AI-first operations with modern structures and operating models.

According to Paul Jeruchimowitz, Senior Managing Director and GCC Practice Leader at Accenture, a survey of 250 GCC leaders showed that 29% have emerged as “catalysts of enterprise reinvention”. He said these centres are actively helping shape AI strategies instead of waiting for direction from headquarters. He added that many Indian GCCs are ahead in AI capabilities and are influencing global operations.

Industry leaders also stressed the importance of strong data foundations and governance. Hari Krishna Verma Nadimpalli, Managing Director of Inspire Brands India Innovation Centre, said AI success depends on trusted and organised data rather than documents stored in silos. He noted that governance systems must evolve to include feedback loops and early error detection.

Ludwig Heinzelmann, India Head of Deutsche Boerse, said trust in AI begins with trust in input data. He added that the company has created a Chief Digital Transformation role to ensure consistency across operations. Its Hyderabad centre, launched in August last year, serves as a large-scale talent and innovation hub.

Experts also highlighted that GCCs are becoming ecosystem orchestrators by connecting technology teams, business functions, startups, academia and service providers. This collaborative approach is expected to play a major role in enterprise transformation in the AI era.
