Strengthening user engagement within its platform, YouTube has expanded its in-app video sharing and messaging feature to more countries, allowing users to share content and chat without leaving the app.
The feature, which was previously available only to users in Ireland and Poland as part of a testing phase, has now been rolled out to 40 countries, including the US, the UK, Brazil, Italy and Singapore.
With this update, users can share videos directly through YouTube and discuss them in real time. The feature supports all types of content, including Shorts, live streams and standard videos, making it easier for users to interact around content they enjoy.
The expansion is designed to keep sharing activity within the YouTube ecosystem, reducing the need to send video links through external messaging platforms.
Users can access the feature by tapping the messaging icon inside the YouTube mobile app. From there, they can send videos, react to content and start conversations directly within the platform.
“We’re excited for user feedback in new markets and look forward to expanding even further soon”, YouTube said.
The feature is available to users aged 18 and above who are signed in to a YouTube channel and have the latest version of the YouTube app installed.
To share a video, users can open a video, tap the Share button, select a contact or send an invitation through another application. Users can also invite others to chat by accessing the Messages section within the app and sharing an invitation link.
Recipients can either accept or decline the invitation. Once accepted, both users can exchange messages and share content directly through YouTube. Invitation links remain valid for 7 days from the date they are created.
The feature was first introduced for testing in November last year and is now being made available to a much broader global audience.
