CBI arrests 2 more accused in Southeast Asia cyber trafficking network

In a major development in the ongoing investigation into international cyber trafficking operations, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 2 individuals accused of being part of a network that lured Indian nationals to scam compounds in Southeast Asia through false job offers.

The arrested individuals, identified as Nipender Chaudhary and Nilesh Narpatsinh Purohit, are alleged to have played key roles in a human trafficking racket linked to transnational cybercrime syndicates operating in countries such as Myanmar and Cambodia.

According to the CBI, Nipender Chaudhary was responsible for arranging travel and logistics for victims. Indian nationals were reportedly transported from Bangkok to Mae Sot in Thailand before being illegally moved across the Thailand-Myanmar border into scam compounds located in Myanmar.

The agency further alleged that Nilesh Narpatsinh Purohit played a central role in coordinating a network of sub-agents across India on behalf of scam compound operators. He reportedly worked from an office inside a scam compound near the Thailand-Myanmar border and received payments in cryptocurrency from operators of these illegal facilities.

Investigators said these compounds function as hubs for large-scale cyber-enabled financial frauds targeting victims across multiple countries. Indian nationals trafficked to these locations were allegedly forced to participate in cybercrime activities.

The CBI stated that victims faced severe restrictions, including confiscation of passports and limitations on their freedom of movement. Several individuals reportedly endured physical and psychological abuse while being held at these facilities. In multiple cases, families were allegedly forced to pay substantial amounts of money to secure the release of their relatives.

The latest arrests are part of a wider investigation into the trafficking network. Earlier in May 2026, the CBI carried out searches at 8 locations across 4 States and arrested another individual linked to the same operation.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to dismantle the network and identify additional individuals involved in the trafficking and cybercrime ecosystem.
