In a move aimed at improving cross-platform connectivity, Apple has announced a major update to iCloud Shared Albums that will allow Android and Windows users to contribute photos directly to shared albums while maintaining original image quality.
The feature was unveiled during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, where Apple also showcased its upcoming software updates, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27.
With the upcoming update, iPhone users will be able to share albums more seamlessly with Android and Windows users. The new functionality will enable users across different platforms to upload and share photos in full resolution, creating a more unified photo-sharing experience.
Until now, Android users had no direct way to view or contribute content to iCloud Shared Albums. Windows users had limited access through the iCloud for Windows application, primarily for viewing shared content. The latest enhancement significantly expands compatibility and brings Apple’s photo-sharing ecosystem closer to competing cloud-based services.
The new cross-platform sharing feature is expected to become available later this year alongside the public release of iOS 27 and macOS 27.
Beyond photo-sharing improvements, Apple also introduced several software advancements powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and an upgraded Siri AI experience. The enhanced Siri is designed to understand personal context and search across messages, emails, photos, and other content to deliver relevant information more effectively.
The updated assistant will also be capable of performing actions across applications, answering questions related to on-screen content, and accessing web-based information when required. Apple additionally announced new tools for image editing, improved browsing experiences, and enhanced communication features across Messages and Mail.
The upcoming software releases will also introduce new child safety features, including recommended apps for children, Ask to Browse, Time Allowances, and an updated Screen Time experience.
