NASA has opened media registration for the upcoming arrival of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, marking another major milestone ahead of its planned launch.
The space observatory will travel aboard NASA’s Pegasus barge from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, where construction, assembly, and testing activities have been completed. Accredited media will have the opportunity to witness the telescope’s arrival and unloading at Kennedy Space Center’s turn basin before it is transported for final launch preparations.
Following its arrival, technicians will move the telescope to the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility, where launch processing activities will begin. NASA experts will be available on-site to answer questions related to the mission and the telescope’s arrival.
Media representatives interested in attending must apply for credentials by 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 4. The opportunity is open only to U.S. citizens. Approved applicants will receive confirmation and additional details regarding the arrival schedule.
Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is designed to provide an unprecedented panoramic view of the universe. The observatory is expected to capture never-before-seen images, support large-scale cosmic surveys, and help scientists investigate some of the universe’s deepest mysteries, including phenomena that cannot be directly observed.
The mission will also demonstrate one of the most advanced technologies ever flown in space for directly imaging planets orbiting nearby stars, supporting NASA’s broader search for potentially habitable worlds beyond our solar system.
The telescope is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center with support from multiple research institutions and industry partners. International contributions are also being provided by space agencies and scientific organizations from Europe, Japan, France, and Germany.
NASA’s Launch Services Program at Kennedy Space Center is overseeing launch operations for the mission. The Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to launch as early as September aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A.
