Haryana launches AI platform to solve governance challenges through innovation

Marking a major push towards technology-led public welfare, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched the Haryana AI Sandbox in Gurugram on Monday. The initiative aims to strengthen innovation, improve governance and support inclusive development across the state.

Addressing innovators, technology professionals and stakeholders, the Chief Minister said the platform will help advance the state’s Antyodaya vision by ensuring the benefits of technology reach the last person in society.

“AI Haryana, AI Governance and AI for Antyodaya will together shape a new era of citizen-centric administration and contribute significantly towards the vision of a Developed India,” he said.

The AI Sandbox has been created as a collaborative platform where government departments can present real-world challenges. Innovators, researchers, start-ups, technology experts and companies will develop practical solutions, which will be tested in a secure environment before wider implementation.

The Chief Minister said Haryana is committed to supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He added that every citizen application represents the hopes and aspirations of a family, making it important to build a governance system that is sensitive, transparent, accountable and citizen-focused.

He emphasized that Haryana views AI as a tool for public welfare rather than just a technological trend. “For Haryana, Artificial Intelligence means Artificial Intelligence for Antyodaya,” he said.

According to the Chief Minister, AI can improve decision-making, identify public grievances more effectively and support faster resolution of issues. He highlighted several use cases, including AI-powered road damage detection through the Mhari Sadak App, better teacher deployment planning in schools, early identification of serious health conditions and faster resolution of water supply and leakage complaints.

The initiative is being launched with 5 identified challenges. In the future, departments including agriculture, revenue, urban development, transport, social welfare, environment and industry are expected to use the platform to address governance challenges through innovation.

Speaking at the event, World Bank India Acting Country Director Paul Procee said the World Bank would support Haryana in strengthening AI skills and capabilities within the government. He praised the state’s proactive approach towards innovation-driven governance.

During the event, the Chief Minister honoured technology professionals Sanjay Dhiman from Google, Mayank Arora from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Sapna Naharia from Microsoft for their contributions to AI and digital innovation. Several senior government officials and dignitaries were also present.
