Galaxy S26 Ultra drives strong early demand for Samsung in global premium markets

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S26 series has started strong in the global smartphone market, with sales outperforming the Galaxy S25 lineup during the first 6 weeks after launch, according to a report by market research firm Counterpoint Research.

The report stated that combined sales of the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra were 15% higher compared to the Galaxy S25 series during the same launch period last year.

Samsung’s overall smartphone sales also reportedly increased by 5% during the launch phase of the Galaxy S26 series, while several Chinese smartphone brands continued to face challenges in the market.

The sales performance varied across regions. The US and South Korea recorded strong double-digit growth, supported by early consumer demand and interest in AI-powered features. However, the Galaxy S26 series reportedly saw weaker demand in China and Japan compared to the previous generation.

Counterpoint Research Associate Director Sujeong Lim said, “The Galaxy S26 series performed strongly in premium markets characterised by high-income consumers, carrier-driven sales channels, and strong consumer receptiveness to AI features.” He also noted that sales momentum slowed during the 6th week after launch, raising questions about whether the series can maintain long-term demand.

Another Associate Director at the research firm, Jan Stryjak, highlighted that the Galaxy S26 Ultra performed particularly well in Europe. According to him, stable pricing compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the addition of the new Privacy Display feature contributed to the strong response.

However, the report also pointed out that worsening global macroeconomic conditions linked to the Middle East conflict could impact future consumer demand.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 series globally and in India in the last week of February. In India, the Galaxy S26 starts at Rs. 87,999, the Galaxy S26+ starts at Rs. 1,19,999, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is priced from Rs. 1,39,999.
