In a major update to its enterprise communication platform, Salesforce has introduced a new version of Slack with expanded AI capabilities. The announcement was made in San Francisco by CEO Marc Benioff and his team.
The updated platform includes 30 new features, building on enhancements introduced in January. These features support tasks such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and searching inboxes for specific information.
One of the key additions is “reusable AI-skills.” This feature allows users to assign specific tasks to Slackbot that can be reused across different scenarios. It comes with a library of pre-defined skills and also supports custom versions.
Slackbot has also been upgraded to connect with external services and tools. It now works as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, enabling integration with systems across the enterprise. This includes Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent development platform launched in 2024.
Through this integration, Slackbot can “route work or prompt questions to Agentforce or any agent or app in your enterprise,” helping find the most efficient path for information without human intervention.
The updated Slackbot also introduces new capabilities such as meeting transcription and summarization. Users can ask the bot for a recap of discussions, including key points and assigned action items.
Additionally, Slackbot can operate beyond Slack by monitoring desktop activities such as deals, conversations, calendars, and habits. Based on this data, it can suggest actions or draft follow-ups for important tasks, while maintaining privacy protections.
With these updates, Salesforce is enhancing Slack’s role as an AI-powered productivity tool designed to streamline workflows and improve efficiency across organizations.
