Reports based on predictions by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that the next-generation MacBook Neo 2 may arrive with a more powerful chip, higher memory, and a touchscreen display.
According to the analyst, the upcoming model could run on Apple’s A19 Pro processor, which is expected to power the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The chip would replace the A18 Pro processor currently used in the first-generation MacBook Neo, which was launched earlier this month.
The report also indicates that Apple may increase the memory to 12GB RAM, compared with 8GB on the current model. This upgrade could help improve performance when handling heavier workloads.
Another possible change is the addition of a touchscreen display. The touch layer is expected to be integrated directly into the IPS panel, which may help maintain the device’s slim design without adding extra thickness.
Analysts also suggest that macOS could receive touchscreen-focused optimisation before the laptop is launched. Apple is reportedly planning to release another touchscreen-enabled MacBook earlier, which could prepare the software ecosystem for such devices.
However, the next-generation MacBook Neo is still expected to be at least 1 year away, and Apple’s plans could change before the final launch.
In a separate prediction, analyst Mark Gurman suggested that Apple may extend the “Neo” branding to other affordable products. The Apple Watch SE lineup could potentially be renamed as the Apple Watch Neo.
Apple recently introduced the MacBook Neo with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, the A18 Pro chip, and a claimed battery life of up to 16 hours. The laptop also includes a Magic Keyboard, a multitouch trackpad, and Touch ID for biometric authentication. In India, the device is priced at ₹69,900 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and ₹79,900 for the 8GB + 512GB model. It is available in Blush, Citrus, Indigo, and Silver finishes.
Benchmark results from Geekbench show the MacBook Neo scoring 3,980 in the single-core test and 10,105 in the multi-core test. In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro Max scored 3,203 single-core and 7,846 multi-core points in internal tests, showing broadly similar performance since both devices use the A18 Pro chipset.
