In a strategic push to strengthen its enterprise presence, OpenAI has launched a new product called Frontier, designed to help businesses manage and deploy AI agents at scale. The announcement marks a key step in the company’s efforts to compete more aggressively in the enterprise AI market.
Frontier is an end-to-end platform that allows enterprises to build, manage, and oversee AI agents in one place. It is designed as an open platform, giving businesses the ability to manage AI agents developed outside of OpenAI as well. The platform enables users to program agents to connect with external data sources and applications, allowing them to carry out tasks beyond the OpenAI ecosystem.
A core feature of Frontier is its management model, which is built to mirror how companies manage human employees. AI agents go through an onboarding process and are supported by a feedback loop that helps them improve performance over time, similar to employee reviews. According to Fidji Simo, CEO of applications at OpenAI, this approach is expected to make it easier and faster for enterprises to adopt OpenAI’s tools.
The launch of Frontier aligns with OpenAI’s strong focus on enterprise growth this year. The company has already signed 2 major enterprise deals with ServiceNow and Snowflake. It has also highlighted existing enterprise customers such as HP, Oracle, State Farm, and Uber. At present, Frontier is available only to a limited group of users, with plans to expand access in the coming months.
The enterprise segment is also a key battleground for OpenAI and its rival Anthropic. Both companies are preparing to go public, setting the stage for increased competition for investor interest. Even as competition intensifies, OpenAI continues to prioritise enterprise solutions and plans to broaden its offerings in this space.
