India rolls out full Aadhaar app with mobile number updates and offline verification

In a move to make Aadhaar services more accessible and secure, the Unique Identification Authority of India has launched the full version of its new Aadhaar app. Now available on both the App Store for iPhone and the Google Play Store for Android, the app is designed to help citizens store, update, and share Aadhaar details safely using their smartphones.

The full-fledged Aadhaar app was first announced in November 2025, but earlier versions had limited features. With this launch, the authority aims to reach a wider base of smartphone users as part of its “Mobile First” approach.

One of the key highlights of the app is easy mobile number updation. Users will find a dedicated tab on the home screen’s bottom bar that links directly to services such as mobile number and address updates. The app also allows users to manage up to 5 Aadhaar profiles of family members through the Profile section.

Another major feature is offline Aadhaar verification. This lets users confirm their identity without sharing their Aadhaar number. Through the Selective Share option, citizens can choose what details to share, including photo, name, age, status, date of birth, gender, address, and mobile number.

For quick identity checks, the app generates a QR code that can be scanned at authorised terminals. This helps confirm identity without physical documents.

The app also includes biometric locking. This feature locks fingerprints, face data, and iris scans to prevent misuse during authentication. Users can unlock biometrics directly from the app. However, if the phone or registered mobile number is lost, access to Aadhaar services through the app will be blocked.

In addition, users can view their previous Aadhaar authentication history within the app. To ensure wider reach and ease of use, the Aadhaar app is available in 13 Indian languages.

With these updates, the new Aadhaar app brings multiple essential services into one secure digital platform, simplifying identity management for citizens across the country.
