GoodEnough Energy starts operations at India’s largest battery storage gigafactory

Strengthening India’s clean energy infrastructure, energy storage startup GoodEnough Energy has begun operations at its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Noida, marking a major step in domestic battery manufacturing.

The company said on Tuesday that it has commissioned India’s largest BESS gigafactory, with an initial operational capacity of 7 GWh. Located in Noida, the facility is planned to be expanded to over 25 GWh within the next 3 years. Alongside commissioning the plant, GoodEnough Energy has started rolling out BESS installations across the country and is seeing strong demand from companies in multiple sectors.

Founded in 2023 by Adit Agarwal, Akash Kaushik, and Gaurav Aggarwal, the company focuses on building advanced energy storage solutions for global markets. With the Noida facility now fully operational, GoodEnough Energy said the project represents a turning point for battery energy storage in India and sets new benchmarks for the country’s clean energy ecosystem.

The company noted that global battery manufacturing has traditionally been dominated by China and other international players. The commissioning of the Noida gigafactory signals India’s growing role in advanced battery storage and aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. The facility has been set up with an investment exceeding ₹450 crore and supports national priorities such as the National Energy Storage Mission and India’s net-zero ambitions.

Plans are underway to scale the plant’s capacity beyond 25 GWh within 3 years, positioning India as a significant player in grid-scale battery storage. “Noida Gigafactory is not just a manufacturing facility, but a springboard for innovation, climate leadership, and green job creation. By supporting national initiatives like the National Energy Storage Mission and the PLI scheme, we’re helping build a resilient, sustainable India for generations to come,” the company’s co-founders said in a statement.

At its current 7 GWh capacity, the gigafactory is expected to support high-emission sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare, mining, and commercial real estate in cutting their carbon footprint. The company said the facility is designed to prevent over 5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, matching the annual carbon reduction target of Indian Railways.
