Live events on Netflix are getting a fresh interactive layer, as the platform has introduced a new real time voting feature for select broadcasts. The company also shared updates on a redesigned mobile app, new AI tools, and its latest quarterly revenue performance.
On January 20, Netflix announced a new feature called live voting. It launched in the US with the live talent show Star Search. “For the first time ever, viewer votes on Netflix will determine, in real time, who advances in the competition and who is knocked out,” the post said.
Netflix said voting only works when users watch the live broadcast. It does not work if users rewind the stream. Live voting is also not supported on the website. It is available on smart TVs using a remote, streaming devices, and mobile apps. For Star Search, viewers can rate performances from 1 to 5 stars. In some segments, viewers must also choose which contestant advances to the next round or wins the show. The format differs from traditional reality TV voting, where audiences usually vote over several days and results are announced later.
The company also confirmed a redesigned mobile app is on the way. During the Q4 earnings call, co CEO Greg Peters said the update will “better serve the expansion of our business over the decade to come.” No further details were shared.
Peters also said the company plans to improve its vertical video feeds, known as Moments. He said these vertical videos will also include video podcasts, and Netflix will continue testing new formats to expand its content offering.
Netflix also outlined 2 AI features expected this year. The first is subtitle localisation, which uses AI to create subtitles in multiple languages while keeping tone and meaning intact. The second is an AI powered recommendation tool that “connects members with the most relevant titles for them to watch.”
Netflix said its Q4 2025 revenue was $12.05 billion, reflecting a 17.6 percent year on year increase.
