Political and developmental focus will converge in the state capital on Friday as the Prime Minister begins his one-day visit with a series of high-profile engagements.
Narendra Modi will launch the BJP’s election campaign by unveiling a development blueprint for the state capital, titled Vikasita Ananthapuri. During the visit, he will also flag off 4 new trains for the state, including 3 Amrit Bharat sleeper trains, at a separate official event.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in the capital at 10 am and will be welcomed with a roadshow. An official function organised by the Railways will be held at Putharikandam Maidan, where the new train services will be inaugurated.
Later in the day, Modi will attend a party programme at another venue on the same ground. The BJP is planning a large-scale mobilisation for the event, with more than 25,000 party workers expected to arrive from across the state. During his address, the Prime Minister is likely to mount a strong political attack on the ruling Left front and the opposition UDF over the Sabarimala gold theft issue.
According to BJP leaders, Modi will formally unveil the development plan prepared by the BJP-led city corporation for Thiruvananthapuram. The blueprint will outline the city’s development plans up to 2030 and will be presented to Mayor V V Rajesh.
“We had earlier said that the prime minister will announce the plans for Thiruvananthapuram’s development 45 days after the BJP council’s swearing in. And here he is, coming down to the capital just 27 days after the same,” said BJP state general secretary S Suresh at a press conference on Tuesday.
Suresh added that the Prime Minister will also elaborate on the 3 core pillars of the party’s election campaign slogan: faith, protection from communal forces, and a developed Kerala.
He said the preparation of the development blueprint is currently under way with the involvement of BJP’s elected councillors. Party workers from wards where the BJP did not win in the local body elections have also contributed to the planning process, he added.
